WooCommerce vs Magento: which eCommerce platform is best for my brand?

Written by Darren | 06 August 2018
When it comes to eCommerce development, WooCommerce and Magento are two of the common heavyweights in the ‘open source’ market. In fact, they are the most common platforms we get asked about. There are various key factors that can help you decide which one is right for you – so we thought why not share them! If you’re weighing up the pros and cons, check out our comprehensive WooCommerce vs Magento comparison below.

Bespoke Design vs Theme & Template Website Design

This is a whole discussion in its own right – but I wanted to quickly cover what this means. With a bespoke design, the visual aspect of the site is created completely for you and built from scratch. This means the design and development process is longer, so the costs are higher.

In contrast, a template website design is based on a pre-designed template which is then customised to your company branding. For this reason, the development times are quicker, and the cost is therefore lower.

Think of eCommerce development like shopping for a suit. You could go to a tailor, or you could go to Next… you could even go to Primark. Each option is applicable to the budget you have available.

So here we go with the comparison – these are our opinions, and I know others may read this and argue with some of our points such as marketplaces integration and maximum number of products. Nevertheless, with the benefit of experience, I’m going to stick to my guns!
