Interim Managing Director (9-month maternity cover)
Location: UK (Hybrid – North West preferred)
Salary: £75,000 – £90,000 (pro rata)
Reports to: CEO
Direct reports: Leadership Team, Senior Management Team, Ops Team
About the role
We are looking for an Interim Managing Director to step in for nine months and guide our agency through a period of transition.
Our established MD is going on maternity leave and we are looking for a leader who can step in to maintain clear ownership of commercial performance and team direction during this period of change. We want someone who can bring their own style of leadership while providing the stability, structure and clarity our people need.
This role is about running the business day to day, keeping the Senior Management Team aligned, and ensuring both commercial performance and engagement stay on track. You’ll be the link translating strategic direction into clear, actionable plans and keeping communication consistent.
What you’ll do
- Provide visible leadership during a period of acquisition and change, reinforcing trust, clarity and alignment.
- Lead and support the SMT and Heads of Department, setting clear expectations and driving accountability.
- Oversee performance, P&L, cost approvals and client contracts..
- Manage day-to-day operations, resourcing, onboarding and internal processes.
- Work with HR to strengthen culture, engagement and development across the business.
- Maintain compliance with ISO standards, audits and legal requirements.
What success looks like
- Quarterly and annual goals delivered.
- P&L performance maintained within budget and EBITDA targets achieved.
- Strong revenue and pipeline growth, supported by lower churn.
- Improved NPS and eNPS, with employees confident in leadership.
- Stable retention of key staff.
- ISO and audit requirements met successfully.

- Proven senior leadership experience (agency background ideal).
- Strong track record in commercial and operational management.
- Experience leading through change, transition or acquisition.
- High emotional intelligence with excellent communication and influencing skills.
- Pragmatic, hands-on leadership style, able to balance strategy with delivery.
