Life as an apprentice at a Growth Marketing Agency

Hello, me again writing my first blog of 2017. I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year, now it's time to get back into action.

January has been a little different from any other month I've experienced at Six & Flow, as we've been through the process of moving offices. What with being a growth marketing agency, we need more space!

The times are changing, outbound is outdated and in some cases, can be potentially dangerous for your brand financially and in a reputational sense. With inbound, you can get the best from your leads. Read our blog 'How to create the ultimate inbound marketing strategy' for more information.

Learning tone of voice and taking pictures

In the first week back from Christmas, everyone was extremely busy getting back up to speed and catching up on emails. I was busy scheduling posts on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google plus for the agency and our clients. I enjoy doing this because most of the research is interesting, and I sometimes get caught up reading lots of different articles.

The kinds of things I post varies depending on who I am posting for, and I've learnt to be careful with the tone of voice I'm using. Some of our clients prefer to be chatty and fun in a more informal tone of voice, whereas others prefer a more professional and formal approach.

Last week I also took a lot of pictures for an Instagram account that we work on. If you have read any of my previous blogs, you will know that this is one of my favourite things to do. This is not only because I love taking pictures, but also because Instagram is my favourite type of social networking.

I think I was very lucky when I got chosen to work with Six & Flow. As a growth marketing agency we work on numerous accounts, which is great for me as I can take more pictures and think of more ideas on the kind of things to post. You should take a peek at our Instagram to see what we get up to.

Giving our social a spring clean

I've also been working on cleaning up our Instagram and twitter accounts - so trying to decrease the following but increase the followers. As Instagram is primarily a mobile app, I used an app called followers+, which I used before I started at Six & Flow for my own Instagram account to see if any sneaky people unfollow me.

On this app, you can see people who are following you but that you don't follow, and vice versa. You can also see ghost followers, meaning followers who haven't liked any of your past pictures. I mainly used this to unfollow people where you can only unfollow 60 about every hour or two.

I was also introduced to a tool called manage flitter. This is a tool used for Twitter where you can unfollow, follow, bio search and analytics. If you want to unfollow large amounts, then I'd definitely suggest to use this tool as you can unfollow up to 600 accounts a day on Twitter.

Catching up in team meetings

As an apprentice at a UK growth marketing agency, meetings are essential to help me keep up to date with what everyone is getting on with.

Hazel and I are going to start to have weekly social meetings, where we can discuss any matters or suggest new ideas we may have. We're also going to use this time to set targets for the week, which I think is a great idea. We had our first one last week.

Adam, Sophie and myself also had our weekly session on content writing styles. Adam talked us through a few different types, I honestly didn't realise there was that many! I had only heard of two or three of them at most. Once he had taught us about them, he gave us some examples of bloggers who have good writing styles for us to research. I think my favourite had to be Owen Jones from The Guardian.

The times are changing, outbound is outdated and in some cases, can be potentially dangerous for your brand financially and in a reputational sense. With inbound, you can get the best from your leads. Read our blog 'How to create the ultimate inbound marketing strategy' for more information.
