They say time flies when you’re having fun, right? Well, last week went by in a flash. Which can only mean one thing – I’ve had the best first week joining the inbound marketing agency, Six & Flow.

Having worked in recruitment for the last couple of years, it’s easy to assume that I knew everything about how to approach different characters (or personas, if you’re talking inbound) but this week has shown me how wrong that perception really is.

The times are changing, outbound is outdated and in some cases, can be potentially dangerous for your brand financially and in a reputational sense. With inbound, you can get the best from your leads. Read our blog 'How to create the ultimate inbound marketing strategy' for more information.

What has joining an inbound marketing agency taught me?

The first thing I learnt about the fundamentals of an inbound marketing strategy is that it is customer-centric, as opposed to the traditional marketing-centric approach. But what does that actually mean?

Inbound teaches you to base your content around buyer personas, so that you can appeal to your audience rather than simply promoting yourself. Use what you know about your target audience to create a semi-functional representation of your ideal customer. You can then create content which really engages, educates and resonates with that buyer persona.

The second thing I learnt was the importance of knowing where a prospect is on their buyer’s journey. Different content can be used to educate leads in the awareness and consideration stages and then position your services during the decision stage. Inbound has shown me how to understand where a buyer is in their journey and to tailor content, social and direct communication to match.

Joining the Six & Flow team

Inbound marketing has changed the way that people buy and sell – now, pretty much everything is personalised. When was the last time you replied to a mass mailer? I for one know they just sit ignored in my ever-growing inbox of impersonal spam messages.

Having gained a degree in marketing but falling into the world of recruitment, inbound is a fresh approach to things I’ve previously learnt and seen implemented in real life strategies.

It has been a refreshing transition into a new environment where learning is central to everything. From day one at Six & Flow, I started training both internally and through the HubSpot Academy.

As Six & Flow’s Business Development Manager, I am excited to use the inbound marketing strategy to reach out and engage with potential clients, but also to pass on the knowledge I have gained in such a short space of time. I’m excited to show clients how they can improve their own marketing strategies, generate more leads and grow their business. After all, one of our core values is "growth".

The one thing that has continually gone around in my head is, “why didn’t anyone show me this before?” So, I’ve just started a blog about how inbound marketing can be used in the world of recruitment. Trust me – from my first week immersed in inbound, I can already see the immediate benefits both for the recruitment industry and further afield.

So, that’s my first week done. A week of firsts - first puzzle fighter game played, first HubSpot certification passed (well it’s actually two now, not that I’m bragging) and my first Friday team meeting.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, and I can’t wait to see what I will learn next!
